2024 Tinc Teacher and Educational Professional of the Year!
Congratulations to Mrs. Hund, 5th grade special education teacher, and Mrs. Szast, school counselor!
Mrs. Mary Hund has been working in Mt. Olive for 17 years but has been a teaching for 23 years. She received a dual certification in Elementary and Special Education as well as a Reading Specialist Certification from East Stroudsburg University. She also attended Centenary University where she earned her Instructional Supervisor Certification.
Her favorite part of teaching is building connections with the students and establishing a strong rapport. She says there's nothing quite like witnessing "lightbulb" moments when a concept clicks, seeing their smiles light up the room, and hearing their laughter during moments of silly humor. These experiences remind her why she loves being a teacher and inspire her to continue making a difference.
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Hund contributes to many aspects of the Tinc Community. She helped to organize the Tinc Trunk or Treat event and supports the school with EAMO grants. She assists with many Tinc PTO events, most recently the Cupcakes and Canvas event. She is also the Head Union Rep at Tinc for grades 3rd - 5th.
Mrs. Alina Szast has been a guidance counselor at Tinc for 4 years. She attended Montclair State University and earned an undergrad degree in Child Advocacy, as well as a graduate degree in School Counseling. Her favorite part of being a school counselor is being able to work with all the wonderful students and families every day.
Mrs. Szast contributes to many aspects of the Tinc Community. She co-leads the Fifth Grade Safety Patrol and Fifth Grade Kindness Ambassador. She organized the canned food drive for the holidays, appreciation letters and candy for soldiers, and organized Tinc’s Warm Winter Wishes for families in need. She also attends many of the Tinc events, including the Trick or Trunk and Read Across America showcase.
