A Gift of Books: First Grader’s Vision Brings Lending Library to Tinc Road Elementary School

This fall, our school celebrated a very special addition to our campus—a brand-new Lending Library, made possible by the generosity and creativity of one of our students, Emma Florey and her family.

The idea for the library began last year when Emma was in kindergarten. She decided instead of having a birthday party, she wanted to do something meaningful for the Tinc Road community. With the help of her family and the support of our principal, Mr. Grilo, her vision of creating a Lending Library quickly began to take shape.

While in kindergarten, Emma collaborated with other Tinc Road School students to design the colorful images decorating the outside of the library, making it a true team effort. Once the library was built, the Florey family donated books to give the collection a strong start.

The Lending Library is located right by our playground, giving students a chance to enjoy a book during recess. The best part is that it encourages students to keep reading at home too—when they finish a book, they can bring it back and exchange it for a new one. This simple idea helps spread the joy of reading and builds a community of book sharers.

On Wednesday, October 1st, we officially opened the Lending Library with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by all first-grade students, Emma’s teacher from last year, Mrs. Smith, our superintendent, Dr. Bangia, and Emma’s proud family.

What started as a kind idea from a kindergartner is now a lasting gift that will inspire readers for years to come.
