Patriots’ Day: Honoring Heroes and Remembering Together

Each year on September 11th, we pause to reflect on the events of that tragic day in 2001. Patriots’ Day is a time to remember the men and women who lost their lives, and to honor the families who carry their memories forward. We also recognize the countless heroes—firefighters, police officers, doctors, and everyday people—who risked everything to help others. Their courage and compassion remind us of the strength that comes from unity and kindness.

Here at Tinc Road School, Patriots’ Day holds a very special meaning. We honor the memory of Mrs. Hilda Marcin, a beloved member of our school community. Mrs. Marcin worked as an instructional aide at Tinc Road for 14 years before her retirement in June 2001. Only a few months later, she was among the heroic passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93. On that day, she and her fellow passengers made extraordinary sacrifices that saved countless lives. Her legacy of dedication, kindness, and courage continues to inspire us.

As a school community, we will observe a moment of silence to pay tribute to Mrs. Marcin and to all those we lost on September 11th. Through this act of remembrance, we teach our students the importance of honoring our past, showing gratitude for everyday heroes, and carrying forward the values of compassion, unity, and resilience.
