Read Across America: Local Police Officers Inspire Young Readers

This year’s Read Across America celebrations at Tinc Road Elementary School were extra special as local police officers joined students for a day filled with books, fun, and inspiration. Officers from the Mt. Olive Police Department visited classrooms to read aloud to students, sharing their love of literacy while also strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the community.

The event, held in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, emphasized the importance of reading and how it can open doors to endless possibilities. Officers selected a variety of books, from classic Dr. Seuss favorites to exciting new stories, engaging students in lively discussions and encouraging them to embrace the joy of reading.

Students were thrilled to listen to the officers bring stories to life, asking questions about their roles in the community and how reading plays a part in their daily jobs. In addition to reading sessions, some officers shared personal stories about their favorite books growing up and how reading helped them in their careers. The event highlighted how literacy connects people and communities, reinforcing the idea that reading is a powerful tool for learning and success.

Special thanks to the Mt. Olive Police Department for taking the time to inspire our young readers!
